“Volatility in Central Africa: Addressing the M23 Resurgence and the Deepening Crisis in the Eastern DRC.”
Chairs
Hello Delegates, My name is Yousef Awwad, and I am honored to chair the United Nations Security Council. I am a senior at Saint Joseph Seminary High School, and I began my MUN journey in ninth grade. Over the years, this experience has helped me grow as a thinker, a speaker, and a leader, and it has shown me the impact thoughtful debate can have.
The Security Council is a place where every voice matters, where ideas shape outcomes, and where boldness and strategy are essential. I encourage you to come prepared, stay engaged, and bring your best thinking to the table.
I look forward to meeting each of you and witnessing the energy, creativity, and leadership you bring. Approach this committee with confidence and determination, and make the most of this opportunity to challenge yourself, collaborate with others, and create meaningful solutions together.
Hello everyone, and welcome to the Security Council committee. My name is Elodie, and I’m truly honored and excited to be your Chair this year. I’m really looking forward to meeting all of you and seeing the ideas, passion, and energy you’ll bring to this committee.
I have been a delegate, and I know that sometimes some committees can be intimidating, and can cause you to be nervous or uncomfortable speaking or sharing your thoughts, but remember that the goal of coming and being in this conference and committee is to have fun and make memories.
So, of course, be well prepared to debate, but also try to make some new friends and obviously have a lot of fun!
With that being said, the Security Council challenges us to think critically and work collaboratively, and my goal is to create a space where you feel confident sharing your ideas and perspectives.
I want you to feel confident jumping into debate, asking bold questions, and really engaging with one another.
For the past three years, MUN has truly shaped my confidence and my public speaking skills. And I can’t put into words the happiness MUN has brought into my life, or how deeply it has shaped who I am Today.
The thrill of debate, the knowledge we gain, and the skills we develop form the core of our MUN journey, and along the way, we build unforgettable memories with people we meet throughout the experience, whether they’re complete strangers or close friends.
I genuinely believe that MUN is a place where we grow into better versions of ourselves, so don’t be scared or discouraged at any point, be grateful for where you are and for the progress you’re making.
